Her goal is to help others eat both nutritiously and deliciously. As owner and manager of Jill Weisenberger Health Communications, LLC, Jill spreads the scrumptious word by acting as Nutrition Expert for LifeScript, online nutrition expert for James Hubbard’s My Family Doctor magazine, a freelance writer and a consultant to both the food and healthcare industries.

Jill has written for Her Sports + Fitness magazine where she was contributing nutrition editor for 2 ½ years, EatingWell, Today’s Dietitian, General Nutrition Center, LifeScript, James Hubbard’s My Family Doctor magazine, the American Institute for Cancer Research and other magazines and organizations. Further rounding out her client base, Jill has consulted to Boar’s Head Provisions, Target Clinics as well as public relations firms.

Jill finds the best of two worlds as she both owns her own business and works for a clinical research company where she counsels subjects in pharmaceutical trials. She has no plans to give up either as they complement each other well. Julie has two sets of specialities: Music and fitness.

In her career as a New York City musician, Julie Goodale has been hailed as a “strong soloist” by Bernard Holland of The New York Times. She has toured extensively throughout the United States with tap dancer, Savion Glover; and with her string quintet, the Abaca String Band. She has appeared in various clubs, concert halls, and on television with performers such as Johnnie Mathis, Diana Krall, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Ochun, and many others.

A few years ago Julie began a second career in fitness. She is certified as a Personal Trainer through ACSM, and as a Cancer Exercise Specialist through the Cancer Exercise Training Institute. From her own experience with breast cancer, she believes in the importance of exercise for cancer patients, and has become a strong advocate for exercise before, during, and after cancer treatments As a personal trainer, Julie works with clients in the New York City area in various phases of cancer treatment - whether they’re interested in getting in better shape before surgery, regaining mobility after surgery, helping to manage the side effects of treatment, or regaining strength after treatment is finished. Hoping to reach out to a broader public, this last year Julie launched a website, www.life-cise.com, which provides online information and training for cancer survivors, no matter where they live. She has led fitness workshops, both for cancer survivors and strength training seminars for musicians. Julie also writes regularly about fitness issues for cancer survivors on her blog, www.fitnessforsurvivors.blogspot.com. She still works as a musician, but is now also dedicated to helping others stay fit and stay strong.

Julie’s story is as much her account of what led her to create Life-Cise Fitness as what she has learned about running a company. However, she wanted to share with listeners that trainers need to focus more on being serious and diligent about the business. She has found that many health professionals she meets with are surprised by her professionalism and preparation, and would like to see more fitness professionals also impress the health communities in such a way.

Julie’s recommendation is to really figure out what you want to create, in order to best determine how to create it. Using music as an example, Julie shares how to set up goals and run a business. It’s a unique blend of business and music, combined with her personal experience that many listeners will enjoy.

To listen to Julie’s interview, click here.

Cindy Heroux RD

Cindy Heroux is a nationally recognized speaker, author of The Manual That Should Have Come With Your Body and president of Speaking of Wellness, an Orlando based consulting company which provides keynotes, seminars, corporate wellness programs and consulting services to corporations and professional organizations world wide. While working on his degree, he also successfully obtained his CSCS certification through NSCA. However, he knew early that he didn’t want to move onto the traditional next step, which was to become an assistant strength coach.
Jim believes strongly in two things: 1) do what you love to do, and 2) when you do what you love, you are living your life’s purpose.

After graduation, he ended up working for a company in a tech support position for three years, which was NOT his life’s purpose!

From there, he started working in a personal training studio, living the typical life of a personal trainer, working early mornings and late nights. But he was living in New Jersey, dealing with the awful winters and just making a living. He was closer to his life’s purpose; at least he was doing something he loved! But he felt there was something else out there for him.

Jim then moved to Tampa, Florida and started his own in-home fitness coaching firm, quickly expanding to hiring other trainers to work for him, while he focused on building the business. Becky is the founder/president of Becky Dorner & Assoc, Inc, a dietetic education and information firm, and Nutrition Consulting Services, Inc, a dietetics consulting firm, providing services to over 100 health care facilities in Ohio since 1983 and employing 25 RDs, plus office staff.

Becky’s mission is to improve the care for older adults, which has been the inspiration for over 400 presentations, locally, nationally and internationally, as well as over 150 articles in professional journals, magazines and newsletters.

Becky Dorner & Associates, Inc. has published over 60 nationally recognized health care books, manuals and CPE programs related to the care of older adults and offers a free email newsletter to subscribers of over 18,000 health care professionals. Becky has held more than 15 board positions in local, state and national dietetic associations and is currently the Secretary for the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel.

The honors and awards Becky has won are numerous, so I would encourage readers to go onto her website, www.BeckyDorner.com.

Becky will be celebrating the 25th anniversary for Becky Dorner & Associates this January, 2008, and alongside her will be her three children as well as her husband, who happens to be her high school sweetheart.

Although Becky felt she wouldn’t be able to share much about her experience, I highly recommend this interview, because, naturally, she does have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with listeners. If I had to encourage listeners to pay attention to one thing, however, it would be the importance of building a support team around you in order to really create a business that becomes self-sustaining and can support you as you desire to move onto other things in your life and still enjoy the fruits of your hard labor in creating a successful enterprise.

To hear Becky’s interview, click here.

Dr. Jo, Joanne Lichten, PhD, RD

Our professional for this month is Dr. Jo, Joanne Lichten, PhD, RD, an accomplished author, speaker, and media spokesperson who helps “busy people stay healthy, sane, and productive.” Dr. Jo has presented more than 1000 programs at conferences, appeared on 300+ TV and radio shows, and has written articles or has been quoted in 200+ newspapers, magazines, and websites.
